About the Division
The Vernon Fire Department started providing Emergency Medical Services to the residents of Vernon and Wilbarger County on February 2, 1978. Before that, Emergency Medical Services were provided by Sullivans Funeral Home.
In 2012, Vernon Fire / EMS treated a total of 1,791 patients throughout all 971 square miles of Vernon and Wilbarger County. The Fire Department keeps four BLS/MICU-capable ambulances at all times, two front-line units and two reserve / transfer units. Being MICU-capable allows the Fire Department to administer certain medications, provide IV access, and use advanced airway techniques.
The EMS Division has a quality improvement program in place to ensure the citizens of Vernon and Wilbarger County receive the best pre-hospital emergency medical care possible. The EMS Division also holds in-house and internet based training to provide members with Continuing Education hours.
