Shifts / Reserves

Responsibilities

The 21 career firefighters are divided into shifts A, B, and C, with seven personnel on each shift. Each shift is led by a Captain and Lieutenant along with five firefighter / EMTs.

Non-emergency response hours are spent in preparing for the emergency needs of our citizens. Maintenance of vehicles and equipment, training, and pre-fire planning are daily activities of shift personnel. Shift personnel also provide public fire safety education activities as well as station tours throughout the year. The Vernon Fire Department / EMS hosts two regional trailers, a Hazardous Materials trailer and a Cascade trailer, to fill SCBA bottles for Nortex Region which includes 11 counties in North Central Texas.
